Why does God make me wait?

by Yewande Olamiju

You’re next in line at the bank and suddenly the bank teller says, “Please wait. I’ll be right back.”

God is not like the cashier who has to attend to some other things before He is able to attend to you.

You’ve been put on hold for the last five minutes listening to a recording say over and over again, “Please what for the next available agent.”

God does not have to put Lagos on hold or call waiting so He can attend to the issues of Bangladesh.

You may ask “If God can do the impossible instantaneously, why does He make me wait?”

As a parent sometimes you make your children wait for their own good. An impatient, hungry infant that suckles too fast soon chokes and has milk running out of her nose, so as the mother you may have to make your baby wait a bit.

If you do not wait for God and His perfect timing you’ll end up like the Israelites who got their requests for meat when they wanted but soon had quails running out of their nose – worse still God sent leanness into their soul (Num 11:4,32-33; Psa 106:14-15; Psa 78:26-31).

Deut 8:2-3,16 God led thee these forty years in the wilderness, to humble thee, and to prove thee….that He might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the LORD……. and to do thee good at thy latter end.

Ps 27:14 Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and He shall strengthen thine heart.

Isa 26:3 Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in Thee.

Psa 37:7,10 Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for Him……those that wait upon the LORD, they shall inherit the earth.

Isa 40:31 NASB – those who wait for the LORD will gain new strength; They will mount up with wings like eagles, They will run and not get tired, They will walk and not become weary.

1 Pet 5:10 But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after  that ye have suffered a while , make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you.

James 5:11 As you know, we count as blessed those who have persevered. You have heard of Job’s perseverance and have seen what the Lord finally brought about. The Lord is full of compassion and mercy.

Wait on the Lord, He’s not a temperamental diva who just enjoys making you wait and watching you squirm while you wait.

He cares, He loves you and His timing is perfect.

He still makes all things beautiful in its time.
